For use on chopping boards and butcher blocks. Wood Protect serves to both oil and wax the board. The wax forms a physical barrier on the wood's surface, protecting it from stains and liquids. The wax also helps keep things clean by filling and sealing knife scars and microscopic pores where bacteria would otherwise accumulate.

 

Caring for your chopping board:

 

  • Hand-wash your board with water and liquid dish soap.
  • Never soak your chopping board in water or put it in the dishwasher.
  • You can dunk it in water, but just for a few seconds.
  • Let the board dry upright.

 

  • Apply the Wood Protect wax and oil lightly on the board.
  • Let dry on the board for 15 minutes.
  • Then buff with a clean cloth.

 

When it comes to how often you should condition your board, there is no secret formula. You'll know when it's time if you look at your board. 

However, you can repeat it twice a season—eight times a year. They get a lot of use, and the more you wash your board, the more you'll have to apply the wax and oil.

Another factor is the weather. When the house is dry and when running the heater more frequently, you may need to oil your cutting boards more often.

If the board is splitting badly in any area, it's time to replace it. Food and moisture can contaminate the board.
